Teaching Practice
My teaching practice is rooted in building strong relationships with my students, understanding their individual strengths, and creating an environment where they feel valued and empowered. I prioritize reflective practices, consistently evaluating and adapting my teaching methods to better support my students' needs and ensure meaningful learning experiences.
Ultimately, my goal as an art teacher is to inspire students to see art as more than just a subject in school, but as a lifelong tool for self-expression, critical thinking, and positive change in the world. Through supportive guidance and a passion for creativity, I aim to empower every student to realise their potential and leave my classroom with a deeper appreciation for the arts and their own creative capabilities.
Teaching philosophy
My Philosophy
As an art teacher, I believe that every student has a unique creative voice waiting to be discovered, nurtured, and celebrated. My classroom is not just a space for developing technical skills, but a safe and inclusive environment where students can explore their individuality, express emotions, and build confidence through artistic expression.
My personal journey with dyslexia has profoundly shaped my approach to teaching. I understand the challenges many students face in traditional learning environments, and I am committed to creating a differentiated and student-centered classroom where diverse learning needs are met with empathy, patience, and tailored support. By embracing a variety of teaching strategies, including visual aids, hands-on demonstrations, and clear step-by-step instructions, I aim to ensure that all students, regardless of their abilities, can thrive and succeed.
Art is not just about creating aesthetically pleasing pieces; it is a powerful tool for storytelling, reflection, and advocacy. I integrate themes from the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into my lessons, encouraging students to use their artwork to address real-world issues such as environmental conservation, social justice, and mental health awareness. This not only enhances their creativity but also fosters a sense of responsibility and global citizenship.
In my classroom, failure is not seen as a setback but as an essential part of the creative process. I encourage experimentation, risk-taking, and resilience, helping students develop problem-solving skills and confidence in their artistic decisions.

Teaching Practice
In this section, you will find all of my teaching practice experience to date, complete with planning
and photographs of students work.

Throughout the past three years I've had the pleasure at teaching in three schools in Dublin, here I learned so much through experimentation and researching processes and curriculum, and have met some amazing educators. in this section you will see samples of projects and works I have delivered in the classroom.

Throughout my time teaching in schools, I have also hosted an portfolio Mentoring course, where students had the opportunity to create works that may lead into compiling a portfolio for submission and grading into art colleges across the country, with my help and advice. This has been very successful in the past and lead to some very successful creations of work, students have been able to let their creativity lead them into whatever direction they choose in these sessions, experimenting with media and creating pieces they normally would not otherwise.

This page includes a selection of projects explored as possible units of learning during my time in NCAD. It contains a variety of projects across different disciplines within art, craft and design.
